To get to the southern parts of Kerala from Kochi, or Cochin, we had to take the night train and travel along the Nilgiri Mountain Railway which will take you over the Nilgiri Hills and into an amazing green landscape.The blue train was stuffed with goods, goats and people and people were literally hanging out of the windows when we departed the station of Kochi. The view from our window was amazing and I couldn't believe how colourful the landscape, filled with green fields, palm and fruit trees, was. We decided to book a cabin as the ride took a few hours but most of the Indian people stood for hours in a pretty crowded train compartment with a few wooden benches for the mothers and elderly.It was an amazing and unique experience and I would recommend taking the night train to anybody ready to be surprised by these amazing landscapes!

The beautiful Mysore Palace in India

Mysore is a city in the state of Karnataka and together with Bangalore a very important touristic drawcard. Mysore is famouse for its rich culture and good silk.Tourists also come here to experience the famous Dasara festival. But just the amazing Mysore Palace Ground with its beautiful palace and lush gardens.The Mysore Palace reminds us of the rich past of this city as the capital of the former Kingdom of Mysore.On the temple grounds you will also find the beautiful Sri Bhuvaneswari Temple with it golden entrance and carefully decorated bellshaped ornaments. The Sri Bhuvaneswari Temple is enriched with colourful little Hindu statues at the site of the Gopuram, or gateway tower. The photos of the temple are amazing also because it was a beautiful day and the sun reflected beautifully on the yellow and golden ornaments and silk drapings of the statues.The Mysore Palace Ground is really peaceful and there is very unique atmosphere. People and cows walked sidelines towards the Palace and I was so lucky to get this beautiful picture of the Mysore Palace with this Indian cow posing in front of it, priceless!

The beautiful streets in Mamallapuram,India

Mamallapuram is an Indian town in the state of Tamil Nadu and completely different than any town I've ever seen.Walking through the streets of Mamallapuram you don't know where to look and its a strange blend of new images, smells and sounds. As we walk we encounter plastic eating cows making their way through town, kids running around barefooted wearing their Unicef rucksacks, scratching dogs licking their wounds and people heading to the loacal markets.
Fruit markets in..Mamallapuram is known for its rocks carvings and monolithic sculptures and everywhere you come either you hear the sound of the workers carving their sculptures or people turn up wanting you to visit their shop to sell you their finest art. Of course we had to see for ourselves and we even bought some nice souvenirs.The roads are the worst we have seen in India and driving around you have to avoid the huge craters to make sure you survive the ride. Alongside the road people dump all kinds of rubbish and even human feces!We ask a little boy if he will show us his schoolbook and withing two seconds we're surrounded by kids wanting to show us what they have learned this week. Unfortunately the writing is in Tamil, the main language of the Tamil Nadu region, so we can't understand it all.We also visited some temples and everybody we meet is interested in who we are and why we are in Mamallapuram.
